Research Interests
My area of research is to determine the prevalence of pathogenic viruses and bacteria in waste and surface water and their risk assessment, specifically,
- Identification and monitoring of the occurrence and fate of Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria (ARB) and Antibiotic Resistant Gene (ARG) in aquatic environments.
- Identification of ARG in plasmids and determination of the dissemination potential of ARG by conjugation.
- Evaluation of the prevalence of key ARG in non-bacterial fractions from the water environment -extracellular DNA and bacteriophages- and assessment of potential for Horizontal Gene Transfer (HGT) by transformation and transduction.
- Determination of the impact of climate and extreme weather events on the occurrence and dissemination of antibiotic resistance
In addition, I am interested in plant pathology also. During my PhD I worked on protection of wheat and rice plant from their pathogen using synthetic analogs of peptaibols, produced by Trichoderma longibrachiatum, and their morphological and transcriptomic effect on rice blast pathogen.
